My name is Steven Dickinson and I’m now the third generation to follow the family trade of being a “Jobbing Builder”. How times have changed…….
I started as the traditional builder’s son kicking around in the workshop at the bottom of the garden. At the age of 4, I was given my own work bench and, as they say, the rest is history.
Working History
When I first started working as a self-employed builder things were very different. Back in the 80s property wasn’t seen as such an asset and maintenance was about as much as most people would expect to do to their property. Now with the current price of property, to extend and renovate can give excellent value for money.
Over the years I’ve worked with numerous surveyors and architects and worked on a variety of projects across Europe with my teams.
My Skills
Now I spend most of my time on site making sure that the works go to schedule. As I’ve served my time in:-
- General building.
- Plastering.
- Carpentry.
- Heating/Air-conditioning.
- Plumbing.
- Electrical instillation.
- Organizing men on site comes quite naturally.
But the real pleasure in life comes when we get a project on an old property with lots of character, that has to be restored personally. My true passion is carpentry and working with some of the old timbers is pure bliss.
